Remember When?

Back in the days
The first leaves of our notebooks
Were free of writing,
Save for our names and grades.
We left them clean,
One side dedicated to Ganesha
And the other to Saraswathy
In the hope
They would help us solve
The tougher math problems
We would meet
Within those pages;
Or help balance
The more complicated equations.
Some dedicated a side each,
To Jesus and to Mary;
While some left it blank
For the Prophet.
That did not stop us from doodling
In each other’s notes
Or playing FLAMES
On the last page
Of a friend’s notebook.
None of the gods minded
As they peacefully coexisted;
Brown paper bound,
Neatly labelled,
And stacked on the teacher’s table.
